In this edition of Song Review, I decided to chose some more recent releases and then some older releases that release a relaxed and chill sound. Everyone on this review is making their debut on the Vinyl Boys website. This release has an excellent mix of alternative, rap, and just feel good jams. The two newest songs on this release are those from Dan + Shay and Niall Horan which were released this past Friday and are getting rated on their first impression to me.
10,000 Hours – Dan + Shay (with Justin Bieber)
Dan + Shay manage to produce yet another feel good love song. The duo known for their mega hit Speechless have done it again and this time with the addition of the icon himself, Justin Bieber. “I’d spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more, if that’s what it takes to reach that sweet heart of yours,” is just an amazing lyric one way or another. From its sweet acoustic sound and loving lyrics, I believe this song can compete with their previous hit and strongly suggest giving it a listen.
Wednesday Morning – Macklemore
Wednesday Morning, the message to Macklemore’s daughter about the corrupt world put into a song. Macklemore does an amazing job of presenting the song the way he does and it deserves more love than it gets. I will leave it at that and suggest you listen, if you want to come to the realization of what is going on in the world and what it means for our future.
Nice To Meet Ya – Niall Horan
Nice To Meet Ya is different… I think its different in a good way though, it has a very alternative feel to it rather than his previous album which was majority pop. It has a good melody and a good catch to the song. Not 100% sure how I feel about the song as of right now, it’ll take more than one listen for me to decide that, but in the end I still suggest you give it a listen.
Pretty Pimpin – Kurt Vile
A relatively undiscovered indie rock artist, Kurt Vile, has managed to put every bit of his confusion and emotion into one song titled, Pretty Pimpin. Pretty Pimpin is a song that you just put on the loudspeakers, lay down, close your eyes, and feel the music. I know that might sound dumb, but just try it, you won’t be disappointed. Kurt Vile brings into this song a soft electric guitar and bass with his witty lyrics about being unsure about his appearance or the way he is, but in the end it comes full circle and he finally sees himself as being “Pretty Pimpin.”
Would You – Pink Sweat$
I’m not even sure how to describe the genre of this song at all. It is a mixture of Bazzi, Charlie Puth, and Chris Brown. I really do enjoy the song though. Pink Sweat$ is also a relatively undiscovered artist that seems to me from the surface needs more love. Another song to just lay there and listen to it, give it a listen. I will warn you, the song might get you in the feels, just maybe.
Fluorescent Adolescence – Arctic Monkeys
Fluorescent Adolescence is by far my favorite Arctic Monkeys song and I believe its the best all around song from them. I couldn’t tell you what this song is about and I don’t want to try and figure it out because I know I will be totally wrong. The guitar, the drums, the bass, the vocals, everything is just spot on. It is definitely a feel good jam to me and if you haven’t heard of the Arctic Monkeys then I think you should give them a quick listen and you won’t be disappointed.
Icon – Jaden
Jaden aka Jaden Smith has no genre. He can do whatever he wants and will make it sound amazing. Icon can turn any ones mood and flip it upside down. The beat along with the backing vocals really bring the whole song together creating a different atmosphere than anything else I have heard before. Jaden is just an icon living.
Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare) – Kid Cudi, MGMT, Ratatat
Pursuit of Happiness is a song that I think everyone knows, but forgets about it. Kid Cudi and MGMT combine to make an amazing sound and create a whole new vibe. I don’t know how else to describe the song, but just it’ll get you head bopping to the beat.
