Bon Jovi’s third album titled Slippery When Wet was released on January 1, 1986 and was the breakout album that the band needed. After two albums prior to Slippery When Wet got no traction and were pretty much failures despite the song Runaway that got a little bit of radio play but were ultimately unsuccessful. Slippery When Wet had two number one hits, You Give Love A Bad Name and Livin’ On A Prayer; also Wanted Dead or Alive peaked at #7 on Billboard’s Hot 100. After this album Bon Jovi was an instant rock success, churning out hit after hit and making Slippery When Wet an essential rock album.
10. Wild In The Streets
In The Streets isn’t a bad song but isn’t my favorite. Wild In The Streets is another song I could see Bon Jovi opening up to in concert. The song will get you jumping around and ready to rockbut is repetitive with saying Wild In The Streets over and over again.
9. Social Disease
Social Disease is a catchy song with good guitar and good drums but just not as good as other Bon Jovi songs on this record. It sounds a lot like other rock songs and doesn’t have that wow factor that makes it stand out in terms of other rock songs.
8. Without Love
Without Love is a good love song by Bon Jovi but not great. It is clearly a B-side song and has the same quality of Social Disease, which has no wow factor. But ultimately not a terrible song from Bon Jovi
7. I’d Die For You
I’d Die For You has a catchy chorus and is a really good song. It is a good rock love song and I’d recommend adding it to your rock playlist. It is definitely not a B-side song and is a very underrated Bon Jovi songs.
6. Let It Rock
Let It Rock is a great 80s rock anthem an if on any other Bon Jovi record it would be number 1 on the album. The album just has so many other great songs that tops this one but still a great song.
5. Raise Your Hands
Raise Your Hands is a great song to start out the B-Side of the record and would be a great song to see in concert. The guitar was great throughout this song and I can see Bon Jovi opening with this song at one of their concerts, an opening that would get the place up and ready to party.
4. Never Say Goodbye
Never Say Goodbye is another iconic Bon Jovi song. I contemplated on putting it higher on the list but songs 2-4 are all seemingly interchangeable. I strongly suggest that you listen to this song but hopefully you have already heard it. It is another slower rock song by Bon Jovi which makes it similar to Wanted Dead Or Alive
3. Wanted Dead Or Alive
Wanted Dead Or Alive is an iconic rock song. The song reminds me of an old western movie and I love that about it. The song has a slower rock feel then some of Bon Jovi’s harder rock songs, which makes it stand out on its own. It is another one of those songs that everyone knows, which is quite a few songs on this record.
2. You Give Love A Bad Name
If you don’t know this song then you have been living under a rock. This song is just simply amazing and I’m sure you already know that. You Give Love A Bad Name has great lyrics, has great guitar, great drums, and great everything. Hands down this is one of the greatest rock songs of all time.
1.Livin’ On A Prayer
Livin’ On A Prayer was a song I first discovered on the original Guitar Hero and I sucked at playing it then and I still do now but I love the song. The song is just amazing, just sitting down and reading the lyrics amazes me of how well Bon Jovi tells a love story through this song. When you think of Bon Jovi, you think of this song and the reason is because the song is perfect.
Slippery When Wet is a truly iconic rock and music album. I strongly suggest checking this album out if you love rock or music in general. This album has everything a great album should have, a good mix of slow and faster rock which is the perfect combination. It has the perfect number of really great hit songs and good songs that are relatively undiscovered. Bon Jovi did a great job with this album and is worth the pickup on iTunes, Spotify, or on Vinyl.
