Full Moon Fever was released in 1989 by Geffen Records. Whenever you hear the name Tom Petty, this is probably the album you’d think of. It was one of 3 albums that Tom Petty made without his band, the Heartbreakers. None of the songs on the album hit number 1, but Free Fallin’ peaked at number 7. I took some time to listen to the album, and found that it was better than I had expected. I hadn’t listened to Tom Petty very much until somebody suggested a review on him. I’ve started to enjoy his music a lot. He has a great style that’s impossible not to like. Here is my ranking of the album, from best to worst.
12. Yer So Bad – This song isn’t awful, it’s just sort of awkward. During the chorus, I don’t like the way the notes change in the middle of a word. It’s hard to understand, but you’ll know what I’m talking about if you listen to the song.
11. Zombie Zoo – This is another song that I just think is kind of weird. It doesn’t make any sense and has a weird opening. I know it’s supposed to sound like zombies and stuff, but still.
10. Alright for Now – This is a nice, slow song that’s easy and calming to listen to.
9. A Face In the Crowd – Another great slow song that tells a story.
8. Depending On You – I love how at the chorus of this song, it speeds up and is completely different then how you had expected.
7. Runnin’ Down a Dream – This song has an unforgettable guitar riff that shows the rock n’ roll side of the album.
6. I Won’t Back Down – Has a great message, it’s easy to sing along to, and has a smooth beat. What else does it need?
5. A Mind With a Heart of It’s Own – Just a crazy song with crazy lyrics. But it’s got a great background rhythm.
4. Feel a Whole Lot Better – This song is really upbeat. It’s just got a good vibe to it. When you’re listening to it, you can help but nod your head and tap your foot.
3. Free Fallin’ – As soon as you hear the first chord, you know exactly what this song is. In fact, I don’t think there’s anybody who doesn’t know this song. It’s a great song that you’ll definitely hear on a classic rewind.
2. The Apartment Song – I really think that this song stands out in the album. It’s very unique and it’s upbeat. It’s a really great song to jam out to which earns itself a high ranking.
1. Love Is a Long Road – This has got to be the best song in the album. There literally isn’t anything not to like about it. It has perfect intro that leads straight into the first verse. When you get to the chorus, it just blows you away. The way Tom Petty holds out the note is just awesome.
This is obviously a pretty good album. It’s impossible not to like. It might take you a while to get a feel for Tom Petty’s style, but once you do, you’ll wonder how you didn’t listen to him before. I hope this review was somewhat helpful and you’ll consider listening to this album.
