Strange Clouds – B.o.B Album Review

August 12, 2018 by Cameron Lyle

*Songs contain explicit content listen at your own risk

B.o.B’s second studio album was released on April 27,2012. The album itself didn’t gain much publicity and is somewhat undiscovered. Even though the album contains several guest artists which include: Morgan Freeman (yes, I typed that in correctly),Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, T.I., Nicki Minaj, Ryan Tedder, Lauriana Mae, Playboy Tre, and Trey Songz. The album had the talent to preform. The album had three Billboard Hot 100 placements and they all appeared in the top 20. The highest peaking song was the title track, Strange Clouds, which finished at #7. The other two songs that placed in the chart included So Good peaking at #11 and Both Of Us peaked at #18 with the help of Taylor Swift. On Billboard 200 the album finished at spot #5 which was slightly worse than his debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, that peaked at the top spot. After the success of his first album (including hit singles Airplanes, Magic and Nothin’ On You) he had to come back with even more. He included even more stars in his songs and after just two albums he had worked with the likes of Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Janelle Monay, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, T.I., and more. Strange Clouds has an interesting group of songs which fits its name of “strange” and even before writing my final thoughts on the album I can say I love it.

x – Ed Sheeran Album Review

July 23, 2018 by Cameron Lyle

Ed Sheeran’s sophomore album was released on June 21, 2014 and didn’t disappoint. He followed his album + that had a hit single, The A Team, with x. The album peaked at number 1 on The Billboard 200 albums. Also, the album had a #2 hit in Thinking Out Loud, Don’t peaked at #9, Photograph peaked at #10, Sing at #13, Afire Love at #37, and One at #87. Ed Sheeran surprisingly did not have a #1 hit until his most recent album which had two #1 hits in Shape of You and Perfect. Below I will rank the songs from worst to best.

Full Moon Fever – Tom Petty Album Review

July 9, 2018 by Jackson Smith

Full Moon Fever was released in 1989 by Geffen Records. Whenever you hear the name Tom Petty, this is probably the album you’d think of. It was one of 3 albums that Tom Petty made without his band, the Heartbreakers. None of the songs on the album hit number 1, but Free Fallin’ peaked at number 7. I took some time to listen to the album, and found that it was better than I had expected. I hadn’t listened to Tom Petty very much until somebody suggested a review on him. I’ve started to enjoy his music a lot. He has a great style that’s impossible not to like. Here is my ranking of the album, from best to worst.

Slippery When Wet – Bon Jovi Album Review

July 6, 2018 by Cameron Lyle

Bon Jovi’s third album titled Slippery When Wet was released on January 1, 1986 and was the breakout album that the band needed. After two albums prior to Slippery When Wet got no traction and were pretty much failures despite the song Runaway that got a little bit of radio play but were ultimately unsuccessful. Slippery When Wet had two number one hits, You Give Love A Bad Name and Livin’ On A Prayer; also Wanted Dead or Alive peaked at #7 on Billboard’s Hot 100. After this album Bon Jovi was an instant rock success, churning out hit after hit and making Slippery When Wet an essential rock album.

Cracked Rear View – Hootie and The Blowfish Album Review

July 5, 2018 by Jackson Smith

Quite possibly one of the greatest albums ever, Cracked Rear View, was released on July 5, 1994 (24 years today) by Hootie & The Blowfish. It was an immediate hit and went on to sell fourteen million copies. Surprisingly, none of the songs hit number one, but three of them made top ten, which is pretty good for a first album. Only Wanna Be With You peaked at number 6, Let Her Cry at number 9, and number 10 being Hold My Hand.

Escape – Journey Album Review

July 3, 2018 by Bryan Lyle

Journey has always been one of my favorite bands. They went through a lot of trouble when they were really popular, but through it all they are still amazing. Steve Perry has a one of a kind voice and is the reason Journey has become what it is known for now. Journey is a band that plays rock and roll but they are also really good at playing slow love songs. The Escape album has a good variety of songs. Some of the songs have been heard by everyone and some of them have not been heard by many people at all. I have ranked the songs in order by the tracklist from the album not by best to worst.

Sports – Huey Lewis & The News Album review

June 26, 2018 by Cameron Lyle

Huey Lewis & The News 3rd studio album was released on September 15, 1983. The album was finished and supposed to be released earlier in 1983 but Huey’s manager feared that their record label, Chrysalis, was about to go under and he withheld the release of Sports.  Once the album was released it went worldwide fast.  Though the album didn’t have a single number 1 hit, it spawned many great songs including The Heart Of Rock & Roll which peaked at #6, I Want A New Drug peaking at #6,  If This Is It also peaking at #6, Heart And Soul peaking at #8, and Walking On A Thin Line peaking at #18.  Over half of the album placed in the top 20 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts.  I enjoyed this album so much that I had to go pick it up on vinyl because what people say are true, everything sounds better on vinyl!  Below I will be ranking the somewhat perfect album from Huey Lewis & The News.

Fly Like An Eagle – Steve Miller Band Album Review

June 19, 2018 by Jackson Smith

My favorite band has to be the Steve Miller band. Not only do they have a very distinct rock sound, they also know how to play the blues. The Steve Miller band started off as the Steve Miller blues band in the early sixties. They had gigs at nightclubs and even sang backup for Chuck Berry. Then in the seventies, they started to drift more towards rock. Their fifth album and first hit album was The Joker, released in 1973 by Capitol Records. A few years after releasing The Joker, they released what I would say their greatest album is, Fly Like an Eagle, released in 1976 also by Capitol Records. This album shows both rock and roll and techno music. Here is my ranking of the album.

The River – Bruce Springsteen Album Review

June 18, 2018 by Cameron Lyle

The River was released on October 17, 1980, by Columbia Records. The album did not have a number 1 hit.  The album’s songs did hold other spots on the Billboard Hot 100,  Hungry Heart peaked at #5 and Fade Away at #20. The River didn’t have many Billboard hits but the album itself peaked at #1 and stayed there for 4 weeks, which was Bruce Springsteen’s first ever #1 hit album.  The album has an overall good sound and is very enjoyable to listen to. Below I will be ranking the album from 20th (worst) to the 1st (best) and just as a reminder this is solely my opinion and it is okay to disagree with me.

The Stranger – Billy Joel Album Review

June 14, 2018 by Cameron Lyle

Billy Joel’s album The Stranger was released on September 29, 1977 by Columbia Records.  The Stranger was his 5th full length album to be released.  Surprisingly this album did not have one single number one hit song!  The top song according to Billboard’s Hot 100 is Just The Way You Are, which peaked at #3 on February 18th, 1978.  Three other songs found their way into the Billboard Hot 100 which include She’s Always A Woman peaking at #17, Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song) peaked at #17 as well, and lastly Only The Good Die Young peaked at #24.  Even though this album didn’t have a #1 hit, it is considered to be Billy Joel’s top selling album. It has sold more than 10 million copies making it a Diamond certification in the United States.  In this review we present two different rankings based on what we think are the top songs.  It is alright to have different opinions then us which we found out that we even disagree on what the best song is.
